Pitru Dosha is a significant concept in Vedic Astrology, often seen as a karmic debt inherited from one's ancestors. It arises when the ancestral souls (Pitrs) are displeased due to neglected rituals or unresolved issues.
It's also
believed that if ancestors have committed mistakes, crimes, or sins, their
unresolved karma can impact the descendant. This can manifest as various
challenges in life, such as financial problems, health issues, or obstacles in
personal and professional growth
------------------------------
What Causes PITRU DOSHA?
- Non-performance of Shraddha: Missing the annual rites for ancestors.
- Negative deeds by ancestors: Actions that incurred bad karma.
- Unresolved issues: Events or mistakes left unresolved in past generations.

How to identify in the horoscope?
Here I am
giving few simple check-points (advanced analysis, only a well-trained Vedic
Astrologer can do)
check the following factors
- 9th H
- 9th H ruler planet
- Sun
if all these
3 factors or even 2 are afflicted by cruel planets. There is Pitru Dosha
running in your father's lineage. For females, these same factors may also
indicate problem running in the husband's family also.
There are
ways to check for mother's lineage PITRU DOSHA also.
EXAMPLE:
The following example horoscope shows Pitru Dosha. This horoscope belongs to one of my clients who was born in October 1966.
Saturn is seeing the 9th H from his seat in the 7th H. Saturn’s 3rd-side-glance is falling on the 9th H which is considered most damaging.
Both the 9th
H ruler Venus as well as Sun are afflicted because
they are both placed on the Rahu-Ketu axis and conjunct with Ketu.
---------------------------------------
Common Effects of Pitru Dosha:
- Health Problems: Persistent health issues or unexplained ailments.
- Financial Struggles: Continual financial instability or losses.
- Relationship Issues: Problems in marital life or family disputes.
- Obstacles in Life: Hindrances in career, education, or personal growth.
- Either less numbers of (or no) male children are born or male children suffer a lot.
----------------------------
What are the Remedies?
- Shraddha
and Tarpan:
Performing annual rituals and water offerings to appease ancestors.
- Charity
and Donations:
Donating to the needy in the name of ancestors on every NEW MOON day
(Amavasya).
- Worship
and Pujas:
Special prayers and pujas to seek blessings and remove dosha. There are
specific places (e.g. Gaya in India) where such Pujas are performed.
- Feeding
the Poor:
Offering food to the hungry and animals.
------------------------
Addressing
Pitru Dosha requires consistent and sincere efforts to honor and resolve the
ancestral debts. It’s all about restoring balance and harmony.
