What I see at a glance

Venus as 1st L in the 1st H – an intelligent and a self-centered man.

Mars is also sitting in the 1st H closely conjunct with the 1st L Venus, this gave him great fighting spirit.

Saturn in 2nd H and Sun in 12th H. So 1st H has equal number of planets in symmetrically placed houses on either side of it – this is one of the combinations of going to Jail. Mahatma Gandhi went to jail many times during the freedom struggle of India.

Saturn is in the 2nd H of food. He could abstain from food for many days. He used this as a political weapon (Saturn is 5th L too), and he went on many hunger-strikes to force the British colonial rulers to accepts many of his demands. His family traditions demanded him to not eat meat and not consume alcohol (Saturn = restricts; restrictive family tradition). He ate meat few times when he was in foreign land but he confessed that to his mother, and he promised to her that he will never eat meat again.

5th L Saturn in the 2nd H – he had great love for singing the devotional songs. He would sing devotional songs too.

Ketu is in the 4th H. He was very detached from his domestic house hold life. His wife and his children complained that neither he was a good husband nor he was a good father.

4th H ruler Saturn is looking at the 4th H and is also looking at Ketu sitting in the 4th H. He had good intrinsic understanding of the root-culture of India. This he used to his advantage in promoting the “10th H placed Rahu’s agenda” of giving him great leadership position in the world. This also enabled him to transcend his detachment towards domestic-householder’s life and convert that into great commitment to work for the mother land and also for working for the farmers and other people connected to the ground. This helped him fuel his 10th H-Rahu agenda of giving him leadership over the entire nation. And we can see how Rahu’s ambitions have worked also - Gandhi is someone whose own children were not happy with him, but he is the Father of the Nation of India.

Rahu+Moon in the 10th H – he was emotionally most happy when he was spending time in public and showing his leadership qualities. Sign of the 10th H is Cancer. Being a man, he could radiate amplified (Rahu) motherly energy from his personality. He could understand the pulse of the masses and could strike a chord with even the poorest of the poor == > this gave him the biggest appeal over the common public across India – he was the biggest and the tallest mass leader in the British India (that consisted of the present day India, Pakistan and Bangladesh). He is one of the few leaders in the world who is called Mahatma (A Saint). Rahu is also foreigners, so we see Rahu also used his fight against foreigners to give him the leadership.

3rd H is the house of communication, travelling and drive. 3rd L Jupiter is sitting in the 7th H (public life) and seeing the 3rd H, 11th H (wide spread distribution) and 1st H (where 1st L Venus is also sitting). Jupiter-Venus opposition is important here.

Venus is also the 8th L of revolution. He is one of the biggest political communicator of all time. In the era when most people did not even possess a radio set he could awaken the entire British India population with his political messages. He could start or stop any number of widespread-mass-campaigns/movements for FREEDOM from the British with just one call (in the era of no TV or social media). He could bring a big revolution (Venus is 8th L also) into the freedom movement of India through his communication skills that appealed to the masses (even the most illiterate would be stirred into action by one call from him).

Jupiter seeing the 1st H and all the planets sitting in the 1st H gave him a philosophical and spiritual outlook too – he was not an ordinary mass leader, people treated him as a saint. Gandhism is a school of political philosophy in itself.   He is the first man in history to show the power of Non Violence as a weapon in political campaigning. Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr were highly inspired from him. He was also an expert of using “long-distance-foot-marching” as a political weapon. Mars in the 1st H (conjunct with 1st L Venus) gave him the athletic energy to walk fast and to walk long distances to bring about a revolution (Venus is 8th L).

Jupiter sitting in the 7th H is retrograde. Jupiter is also the 6th H ruler. Despite being a married man, he took an unilateral vow of celibacy without consulting his wife. He then forced his vow of celibacy on her. We should also see close conjunction between Mars+Venus in his 1st H (Libra). He kept on testing his resolve for celibacy through taboo experiments.

11th H ruler Sun is in the 12th H – he would often participate in spiritual gathering for mass-prayers.
