Pitru Dosha - What is it ?

Pitru Dosha literally means some blemish working in our life which are stemming from our family ancestors. It can be seen as some kind of inherited bad karmas of our ancestors that we are born with. The word Pitru Dosha can be loosely translated into English as ANCESTRAL BLESMISH (or some people also translate it as Ancestral Curse). It can be identified easily from our Vedic horoscope…. 

 

COMMON EFFECTS OF PITRU DOSH

If there is Pitru Dosha running in a family, then that may cause some challenge in the life of children born in the family.

Normally, in a family where Pitru Dosha is present, either mostly female children are born or male children suffer obstacles and problems in their life and profession. In few cases no children are born to a couple belonging to a family with heavy load of Pitru Dosha.

Children [especially male] born in such families find troubles in getting married OR if they get married, they may experience trouble in their marriage. Few children born in such a family may turn to homosexuality.

Many members of such a family may suffer due to health issues.

Many people in such a family may also experience stressful finances and problem in their career. 

Broadly there can be three types of Pitru Doshas running in a family:

1.    There can be Pitru Dosha running in our family if the death rituals of some ancestor in our family were not done properly at the time of his/her death as per how it is prescribed in our scriptures.

 

2.    If some of our ancestors had an accidental death (or death by suicide etc.), their soul may still be stuck in this world (or loka) only and may be wandering as ghost because of unfinished tasks or attachments … etc. Now, we as surviving member of the same lineage, it is our duty that we say prayers or do the prescribed rituals under the guidance of some priest … etc. which can free such a soul of some ancestor in our family from this loka. And if we are not doing anything to help such a soul, that soul can bring trouble in our life.

 

3.    If some people in our family ancestry did some bad karma and earned some kind of curse because of that...now, in the same way as we inherit family genes, we inherit wealth… etc., we all also inherit the family ancestral bad-karmas and the consequent curse that we run in our family line.

Pitru Dosha is a very deep topic of analysis in any horoscope. Only an experienced Vedic Astrologer can do a detailed analysis of this and provide you with good remedies to negate it. But here I am giving one simple thumb-rule to identify it. 

You may have Pitru Dosha running in your life if:

·       9^th H of your birth horoscope is afflicted

·       Sun is afflicted in your birth horoscope

·       Planet ruling the 9^th H is afflicted

REMEDIES

·       We should regularly say prayers for our ancestors. Just praying for the self is not enough. We must pray for our ancestors too to burn the effects of bad karmas that may be running in our family. If you do not know what prayers to say for this purpose then I can suggest you two mantras in this context. You can chant any one of these two mantras to get rid of the Pitru Dosha running in your family – 1) RaaMa chanting 2) Gayatri Mantra Chanting. 

·       Donate food and money to priests, poor and animals on Amavasya Day. Pitru-Tarpanam may also be done either daily or on Amavasya Days. 

·       Pitru-Tarpanam should be performed on all the 15 days during the Pitru Paksha. 

·       Whenever possible, the eldest surviving member of the family [especially the male] may go to Gaya and do the necessary Pitru Shanti puja there.

Highlights of her horoscope 

Jupiter, Sun and Mercury in the 7^th H. 

Jupiter forming HAMSA Maha-Purusha Yoga, but Jupiter is at 1° Sagittarius which is Gandanta Zone (junction between water and fire). So she has to go through some chaos and intrigue in her life too.

5^th H ruler Venus is placed at 1° in the 9^th H/Aquarius. Venus will go into Libra in D9 and will remain in Aquarius in D10. Venus is also forming EXCHANGE with Saturn involving 9^th H and 12^th H.

She has been running through Venus MD since 2004 which will end in April 2024. Venus gave her very good results in the beginning as her Congress Party was in power in India till 2014. In 2014, when she was running through Venus MD and Jupiter AD, the Congress Party lost power in the general election. Venus/Jupiter or Jupiter/Venus period are generally challenging, and Jupiter is also placed in Gandanta.

Why Sushmita Sen suffered a Heart Attack?

 Sushmita Sen is a former Miss Universe and a popular film actress of Indian cinema. She has been recently in News because she suffered a Heart Attack. In this article I will try to examine that why a heart attack happened to her in February 2023.

Her birth information is:

19^th Nov. 1975
6 am
Hyderabad.

She is Libra rising in her birth horoscope.

If we see the planetary placements in her horoscope, it is

·       Mercury and Rahu are placed in Libra in the 1^st H

·       Sun is placed in Scorpio in the 2^nd H

·       Retrograde Jupiter is placed in Pisces in the 6^th H

·       Ketu is placed in Aries in the 7^th H

·       Moon is placed in Taurus in the 8^th H

·       Mars is in Gemini in the 9^th H

·       Saturn is Cancer in the 10^th H

·       Venus in Virgo in the 12^th H

WHY SHE SUFFERED A HEART ATTACK NOW?

First let us understand one thing that her horoscope does not show a very strong health constitution – why? – because she is Libra Lagna and her Lagna Lord Venus is placed in the 12^th H. 12^th H can work like a blackhole for draining away the energy of physical vitality. This Venus is also afflicted by Mars and Saturn and also by Jupiter who is 6^th H ruler of her horoscope.

6^th L Jupiter is also afflicting Sun (the natural Karaka of heart) through his trinal aspect. Sun is also placed in the Vishakha nakshatra which is ruled by Jupiter.

Jupiter is functionally very evil planet in her horoscope because

·       Jupiter is bitter enemy of her Lagna Lord Venus

·       Jupiter rules 3^rd H and 6^th H.

·       Jupiter is placed in the 6^th H.

·       Jupiter is RETROGRADE.

·       Saturn is the natural Karaka of disease for everyone. Saturn is placed in Cancer rashi in her horoscope. 6^th H from Cancer is Sagittarius. So, Jupiter also rules 6^th H from Saturn.

Jupiter is therefore the factor that can give her health issues. And I guess, she may be suffering with hormonal disorder also as Jupiter and Venus are connected in her horoscope. Jupiter is connected to Sun, so she is also susceptible to Heart Problem.

DASHA

She has been running through Jupiter MD since 2013. So, health problems may have started to manifest (slowly intensify) after that.  

Presently, she is running through Venus sub-period inside the Jupiter main-period. I have written above that Venus is badly afflicted in her horoscope. If asc. L is afflicted, then whenever the asc. L gets active in Dasha that time will definitely give visible manifestation of illness and disease, and here she is also running through the main-period of the functionally most malefic planet Jupiter. 

So, from the perspective of Dasha she was expected to have health troubles in this phase.

TRANSIT:

Planetary transit in Feb 2023 is as under:

·       T-Saturn is seeing her natal Sun from Aquarius

·       T- Jupiter is seeing her natal Sun from Pisces. T-Jupiter is also activating the natal Jupiter who is also placed in Pisces.

·       T-Mars is seeing her natal Sun from Taurus. T-Mars is also afflicting her natal Moon in Taurus.

·       Ketu is transiting through her 1^st H Libra.

·       Her asc. L Venus was in Pisces in TRANSIT, and we know Pisces is the 6^th H of her horoscope.

So, we see she is running through a very difficult DASHA and the transit of planets in the sky is also challenging for her. No wonder, she suffered a heart attack. She should immediately start astrological remedies also to save herself from more troubles.

Meaning

OM 

Tryambakaṃ Yajāmahe: We Worship the Tryambaka (the Three-Eyed One = SHIVA).

NOTE: Shiva is visualised as the Three Eyed One in this mantra because the Third Eye has the transcendental vision that can see beyond the physical.

Sugandhiṃ Puṣṭivardhanam: Who is Fragrant (as the Spiritual Essence) and Increasing the Nourishment (of our Spiritual Core)

Urvārukam Iva Bandhanān: (may I be liberated) from the web of bondage (or Karma) that holds us captive... like cucumbers slipping loose from the vine’s entanglement

Mṛtyor Mukṣīya Mā'mṛtāt: May I be liberated from death, (but) not from immortality

FULL MEANING:

We worship the three-eyed Lord (Shiva), who is fragrant (with divine essence) and who nourishes and strengthens all beings. Just as a ripe cucumber naturally detaches and is liberated from its bondage to the vine (without harm to the fruit), may He free us from the grip of death – not for mere immortality in the body, but for true liberation into the immortal state (beyond death and rebirth)

NOTE: A mantra is not primarily about its literal meaning. The purpose of meaning is to create an emotional resonance with the sound itself. At its core, a mantra is a sound-formula that works beyond, and independent of, any meaning attached to it.

Longer and more powerful version of this mantra:

Many spiritual traditions – particularly those rooted in Tantric, Shaivite, or advanced Japa (repetitive chanting) practices – enhance the core Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra by enclosing it with powerful Beej mantras (seed syllables) at the beginning and end. Then the Maha-Mrityunjaya Mantra looks as below:

 

ॐ हौं जूं सः ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः

ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम् । 

उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान् मृत्योर्मुक्षीय माऽमृतात् ॥

ॐ स्वः भुवः भूः ॐ सः जूं हौं ॐ

Om hauṃ jūṃ saḥ Om bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ

Om tryambakaṃ yajāmahe sugandhiṃ puṣṭivardhanam |

urvārukam iva bandhanān mṛtyor mukṣīya māmṛtāt ||

Om svaḥ bhuvaḥ bhūḥ Om saḥ jūṃ hauṃ Om

This version is known as the samputita (enclosed or "protected") version of the mantra.

The addition of these Beej syllables — along with the purifying Gayatri Vyahrti (Bhur Bhuvah Svah) — forms a vibrational "shield" or enclosure around the original Vedic verse. This structure is believed to amplify the mantra's potency, prevent energy dissipation, and make it more effective for specific intentions such as:

• Deep physical and emotional healing
• Promoting longevity and vitality
• Protection from untimely death or accidents
• Overcoming severe obstacles, fears, or karmic challenges
• Supporting intensive sadhana (spiritual practice) for profound transformation and moksha (liberation)

In essence, the samputita form acts like a fortified vessel, intensifying the mantra's divine energy while providing an extra layer of safeguarding.

Meaning of the Added Beej Mantras and Vyahrti

These are Tantric enhancements that "enclose" (samputa) the core mantra for greater power, especially in healing, protection, and intensive sadhana:

ॐ हौं जूं सः (Om Haum Joom Sah):

Haum (or Hraum): Beej for Shiva's fierce, protective energy — destroys negativity, fear, and obstacles; invokes his shield-like compassion.

Joom (or Jum): Associated with vitality, healing, life force (prana), and overcoming disease/death; a shield for health and rejuvenation.

Sah: "That" (divine essence) or power/endurance; affirms the ultimate reality.

Together Invokes Shiva's protective, healing, and empowering force to conquer death and sustain life.

ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः (Om Bhur Bhuvah Svah):

The three Vyahrti from Gayatri Mantra, representing the three worlds/lokas (physical=Bhur, astral=Bhuvah, causal/Svarga=Svah). They purify the chanter's body, mind, and spirit across all planes, aligning with cosmic energies.

The reverse at the end (ॐ स्वः भुवः भूः ॐ सः जूं हौं ॐ):

Seals the energy in a mirror/reverse pattern (anulom-vilom), preventing dissipation, creating a protective enclosure, and intensifying the mantra's effects — like closing a circuit for maximum vibrational impact.
